art of the magic of visiting the Walt Disney World resort,
especially for children, involves the opportunity to hobnob with all the Disney characters that roam through the various parks, posing
for pictures and signing autographs.
Throughout your visit to Disney World, there are a number of different opportunities to interact with the Disney characters. While you'll no doubt see the characters occasionally strolling through the park, accompanied by a Disney cast member, it's often difficult to fight the crowds attempting to grab a photo with the character and your kids may end up being disappointed. However, in the last several years, Disney World has set up designated areas where particular Disney characters are stationed for autographs and photos. Guests wait in an orderly line for their turn and Disney employees keep the line moving yet give everyone ample time for hugs and pictures. Check out the Toontown Hall of Fame in the Magic Kingdom or Camp Minnie-Mickey Greeting Trails in Animal Kingdom.
Meals that feature the Disney characters are also a fun way to meet and greet your favorites. These so-called "character meals" are offered at a number of restaurants throughout the resort, including the hotels, and guests of all ages have a blast enjoying the good food and joking with characters like Goofy, Donald, Chip and Dale, and many of your other Disney character favorites. These character meals fill up quite quickly and most of the restaurants allow you to make reservations up to 180 days in advance of your arrival, so advanced planning is advisable. For something a little different, consider a character dinner with a Norwegian slant at the Norway Pavilion in EPCOT's World Showcase or Donald's Pre-historic Breakfast in DinoLand in Animal Kingdom.
Of course, there are plenty of other places throughout the park where you can see the world-famous Disney characters. Be sure to take time out of your busy ride schedule to stop for the parades that travel through each of the parks on a daily (and nightly) basis. Parades change every now and then but you can be sure that each will include a number of Disney characters. These also present great photo opportunities as floats move slowly enough for you to capture a good picture. Disney characters that walk along the parade route may even stop to give your child a hug or ruffle his hair!
Every child (and even some fun-loving adults!) wants to take a Disney character or two home with them. No problem! The shops in Walt Disney World boast walls and tables full of your favorite plush Disney characters, just waiting to be taken home and loved. Plush characters come in all shapes and sizes, from very small bean bag-types to extremely large stuffed animals that seem life-sized. Choose your favorite and give him a place of honor on your bed!
Disney characters are also available as action figures, a favorite with young boys, and girls will enjoy 11" fashion dolls dressed like their most-treasured Disney character princesses, such as Cinderella and Snow White.
Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide
A few people have asked me about Beth Haworth's book "Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide", and were wondering what my take on it was. Given my reputation as a well known writer on the topic of Disney World, they thought I could give a fairly honest review.
So I clicked on over to Beth's website and snatched a copy for $30. I sat down and read it from "cover-to-cover" immediately.
Now keep in mind I already have extensive notes on saving money in Disney World, and I already have a pretty good list of the best hotels and restaurants. So I wasn't really sure what to expect.
But this book really impressed me.
It was well written, easy to read, and very comprehensive. The book was jam-packed with tips and inside information about places to go, things to see, the best attractions, restaurants, hotels... you name it, it's in there. It was also consistent with all of the things I already figured out from my own vacationing, and it also gave me some great new tips and tricks.
So now, I can finally give an honest recommendation for this book. I really loved it and it was worth every penny. The tips in the book allowed me to save about $550 dollars on my last weekend getaway.
You can grab a copy of Beth's Guide for only $30. It's available on her website and can be downloaded immediately. It's highly recommended for anyone who is interested in travelling to Disney. Even if you only on intend on going to Disney World once, it will not only save you time and money, it will also make your experience much more enjoyable.
Whatever you decide, be safe and most of all, enjoy your trip!
